Frozen wood pendant

Made in 2019.
I love the look and feel of snow and the atmosphere that comes with it. I already played a bit with snow shading and different approaches, but I was never really happy with it. For the holiday season motive at the studio I'm currently working at [Azraels-Art] I wanted to tackle the topic again. After a lot of research, some tests with a snowball and way more tests in the actual scene I had something that worked quite well.

The Snow on the ground is fully procedural, the frost and fresh snow on the twig was solved with a combination of hair and scatter. The wood pendant and the twig was sculpted in Zbrush and textured in Substance Painter. Finally, the scene was created in Cinema 4D and the "frozen smoke" was simulated in TurbulenceFD. Rendered in Octane, main composite and grading in Resolve.

Another light pass from the render. It feels like it's the same scene a few minutes before the sun hits the place.
